An exact recreation of the preamp of the now ubiquitous Tascam Portastudio 424 in pedal form, complete with a fader! A range of colours to choose from - Matte black, Grey (with orange knobs), Silver sparkle, Blue sparkle and Pearl grey.
This pedal takes the gain staging from the input (trim) control, through the channel fader, and the master section of the portastudio, for a faithful recreation of the entire signal path from input to output. The handy treble and bass shelving EQ is also lifted from the original Tascam unit, allowing you to easily shape your tone, with a handy centre detent in the middle of the knob's sweep, letting you know when things are 'flat'. It's also got a fader for the 'channel volume' control, cause who doesn't love a fader on a guitar pedal?
It does that funky DI'd tone you know and love, works as a great utility box + booster with the EQ, or serves as a more traditional trashy dirt box into an amp. This 424 preamp is designed to run at 9VDC for an accurate recreation of the original units, but also sounds great at 18V for more headroom.
Controls:
-In - Labelled 'trim' on the portastudio, controls your input level. Keep it low for clean tones, or crank it for some dirt. The breakup character of the 424 is very unique and this is where you dial it in.
-Hi - Controls the High shelf EQ. Middle is flat, turn it up for treble boost, turn it down for treble cut
-Lo - Controls the Low shelf EQ. Middle is flat, turn it up for bass boost, turn it down for bass cut
-Fader (channel gain) - This control originally adjusted the channel volume into the master section of the portastudio. In this implementation it adds a handy second gain stage, useful for driving or cutting level into the 'master' section. It can be used to add even more dirt, if that's your thing.
-Out - Master volume control
All Dirty Sock Effects have a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects and normal wear and tear. If it breaks, we will fix it.
